Question/Comment:

So far I've had a rectal exam, 2 Colonoscopies/Polypectomies within the past year, Graffin Enema, Sitz Marker Study, & I'm on 2 laxative/stool softeners & a prescription med also. Now I still have a cinedefecography & anal manometry to look forward to before I have surgery. And its not so simple as just stop taking the meds...the damage is done now. I cant reverse whats happened to me, but maybe what I've shared will help keep someone else from going thru what I HAVE & STILL AM going thru.

Question/Comment:

I have been on pain meds for about 10 yrs. I'm disabled from arthritis, etc. I started on Ultram, then went thru Lortab, Tylox, MS Contin, & have been on Percocet for over 2 yrs. now. I was referred to a Gastroenterologist, put thru awful tests, including (but not only) 2 colonoscopies, enema xrays etc & have now been referred to a Colorectal Surgeon to have all but a foot of my colon removed. They say its from the narcotic pain meds I've had to take for so long. BE CAREFUL! I'm terrified now!

Question/Comment:

i have been on all kinds of different pain meds. where i have a broke back with rods and screws in it and the only thing that seems to help with my pain is the durgesic patches, 50mg i do sometimes get sick on them but sometimes i don't u wear the patch for 3 days and take it off and put another one on but that seems to help with my pain besides getting sick are they anything i can take with it from getting sick?

29 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

I am a 54 year old woman and have had the same reactions with the patch however I found after wearing it for awhile (several months) the feeling sick has gone away. I treated the symptons like pregnancy. I ate krackers and siped some sort of beverage like tea. I am now comfortable and love the relief from the pain with the patches. Good luck with yours and maybe try the above suggestion.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

There are medications that are specifically used to treat nausea, and there are medications used to help with breakthrough pain. You need to discuss your symptoms and concerns with your physician. Together you can look at your medication history to see which options you still have available to you.

Answer/Reply:

to prescripe an anti nausea drug, such as phenergrin or zofran. The phenergrin does have extreem drowsiness as a side affect, but the zofran does not. The nausea will abate as you get use to the drug.
