Question/Comment:

im 24 yrs old and fall in the 2 percent of people with ibs. no medicine helps i take a real big overdose of 18 pills at once for 4 yrs now and most of the time it fails to help and when it does it only works for 5 hrs. most people would think i will die from that many at once. but when in fact the over 50 medical doctors i been to all gastrointestinal ologist have mixed reviews. but most make me stay in a worthless hospital for up to 4-5 days and see how my body reacts to the huge over dose in lomotil. and they say that my body is used to the overdose you are probly wondering why i would tell people this. i am telling you people this that what i have done the past 4 yrs even though i been sick for 16 yrs is that dont do it. it would kill most people. overdose is bad even to a small level of it but i take almost 3 times the dose. just bc the docts say it wont hurt or kill me doesnt mean it wont. doctors are just humans like all of us. i do it bc i have no choice its eathier i risk it for the past 4 yrs or i am going to b hospitalized for the rest of my life. i have had over 300 medications for it and some medications that really wouldnt make sense to the normal person but as of like me the doctors are also desprite. when u r sick like me 24 yrs old and in a 4 day time spane go to the bathroom over 100 150 times. it really doesnt bother your mind set on the medication. so if u fall in the cursed uncurable unmedicated 2 % i feel sorry for you. if you fall in the helpfull percent i envy you. so the next time you r sick and u feel hopless and you take your medicine and return normal. just remember ur not the only person that has this problem and there is people out there like i that are far worse then you. andrew 24yrs old

Question/Comment:

I had 2/3 of my large intestine removed 3+ years ago because of a colonoscopy with precancerous growths. I have had crohn's for over 25 years. I was unaware that I would have chronic diarhhea after surgery, and absolutely cannot live without my lomotil. I have never had any side effects and it allows me to leave my house daily and have a normal life. My crohn's is very under control, the diarhhea is an issue I deal with daily but take 2-4 tablets to function. It is a life saver for me.

Question/Comment:

I have been on Lomotil for 10 years. It has helped me to have a "normal" life. I had a botched surgery that left me incontinent. W/O Lomotil, I would not be able to leave the house. I also developed IBS after the botched surgey, a female one was not done correctly. I am grateful for Lomotil, an old drug that has been tried and true...

Question/Comment:

I have Crohns Disease and have been on Lomotil for 4 years now. It has helped me in the past, but now I've been taking 2-3 (2.5 mg.) pills at a time and it doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I'm wondering if you can become immune to it? I am going to ask my doctor at my next visit, because I used to take one pill in the early morning (7:00 a.m.) and then another around 11:00 a.m., and they helped, but now I've had to increase my dosage and they are not working anymore. Has anyone else became immune to this medication?

iGuard Answer/Reply:

It is possible to develop a tolerance to Lomotil. A tolerance would cause your body to need more of the medication to achieve the same effect. However, you are close to the maximum daily dose taken on a regular basis so you should not increase your dose without first talking to your doctor. There may be something else could be causing the medication to not work as well for you. It is possible you are having a flare-up of your Crohn's Disease. Coming out of remission could also cause the Lomotil to not work as well. Make an appointment with your physician to discuss your increased symptoms.

Question/Comment:

I had my large intestine taken out about 4 years and now have a inner pouch. I had UC for over 12 years, and with these surgeries and taking Lomotil I have a normal life. I take it 4 times a day. 20 minutes before each meal and before bed.
