Question/Comment:

I switched from 2mg 4x a day of Xanax to 2 mg 3x a day to Klonipin. Klonipim is much better than Xanax. My body got so dependant on the Xanax I was feeling the need to take it every 2-3 hours. So my shrink changed it to Klonipi. What a difference!! I dobn't feel the need to take it every 2 hours, I can actually go about 51/2 hours between doses. Also, it's less harsh, much more mellowing. I love it.

Question/Comment:

I have a primary orthostatic tremor which is a very rare condition with about 400 cases in the UK. My consultant is the leading neurologist in this field and prescribed clonazepam about 7 or 8 years ago to help ease the tremor.
Nobody knows what causes POT and there is no specific medication. No drug is being researched in view of the cost and low number of cases. Clonazepam, which I take 2 or 3 times a day reduces the intensity of the tremor but does not remove it. When I stopped taking clonazepam for 2 days the tremor was substantially worse.

Question/Comment:

I have been on Klonopin 0.5mg 2X as needed for Bells Palsy for 3 years to control facial twitching. Previous to that, I was given 1 mg as needed for anxiety due to my wife getting breast cancer. That's about 4 years. On and off I noticed numbness in my face and extremities, feeling of impending death or doom, dry mouth, numb tongue, dizziness, tingling, and etc. I exercise regularly a lost 50 lbs this year, but continued getting these sensations and thought I was having a stroke. Then I noticed my ears started to hurt and pop. After seeing my GP and Neurologist, they felt it was nothing major. Finally, last night for no reason my head and limbs went totally numb after not taking Klonopin for 2 days and I went back to my Neurologist and demanded a change. He denies any association or Benzo tolerance withdrawal and feels that I'm just having GAD attacks, but agreed to taper off Klonopin and start Paxil. If my facial twitching return he will give me botox injections. I want to try to just taper off the Klonopin and hold off on the Paxil because I'm convinced my GAD is worse from the prolonged use of Klonopin. Any thoughts?

Question/Comment:

I have been on clonazepam for 7 yrs. now and before that Xanax and before that Tranzene. They are all benzodiazepines and I was told by my physicians right from the start not to run out of them suddenly because they do cause dependence but that my condition warrants their use. I am 62 and so far have not had any cognitive problems but I suppose that under my doctors supervision as I age I will eventually cut back some since they are excreted more slowly as we age. There is no cure for my condition so unless they come up with something new that does not have an adverse effect on me I will probably be taking this drug at some dosage as long as I live. I'll let you know how it's going in another 20 years.
