Question/Comment:
My 12 year old daughter has been on Flovent since she was two. Should I be concerned. I do know she has been recently experiencing headaches.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Headaches are a common side effect of Flovent. However, there is less steroid absorbed from an inhaler versus taking pills orally. Make an appointment with your daughter's physician to discuss her headaches and symptoms to see if her medication is the cause or if there is another underlying reason.

Blood glucose changes can be a side effect of Flovent. If your symptoms are affecting your lifestyle or if they worsen, discuss them with your physician. You may need your dose of Flovent adjusted.

Question/Comment:
Would Flovent have any side effecs on my Type1 Diabetes?

iGuard Answer/Reply:
As an inhaler, Flovent is not absorbed into the body in large amounts. However, it is possible for small amount to be absorbed into the body. Flovent (fluticasone) belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroids. Corticosteroids can affect blood glucose especially in patients with diabetes. Because it is an inhaler, it probably will not affect blood glucose as much as if it were being taken as a tablet. However, it would be better to monitor your blood glucose more closely if you add this as a new medication or increase your dosage. If you notice that your blood glucose is consistently running high, make an appointment with your physician to discuss your medications.

Question/Comment:
I'm concerned about Flovents affect on my ostoporosis, any coments ?
71 year old Male – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Flovent which is an inhaled steroid typically has less absorption than an oral tablet or capule. You should only take your Flovent as directed and not exceed the daily dose prescribed. There were some cases of reported osteoporosis after the Flovent had been on the market but its incidence or rate was not able to be validated as the side effect was reported from the general population and not monitored in a clinical study. You should discuss your concerns with your doctor and if necessary get a bone density scan for a baseline bone level and have it repeated annually. Any major changes in your bone density would be captured and recorded and your doctor would be able to determine the best course of action for you.
