Question/Comment:

21 years ago my Dr. prescribed DiaBeta(Glyburide) and told me that it would help my dabetes-2 and that in approx. 10 years it may help harden my arteries and I may have a heart attack. Well, 11 years into it, he was totally correct. I now have a stent in my artery but now I also take Actos and Metformin along with glyburide. I suggest wholeheartedly talking with all your doctors. Todays meds are studied much longer & better than years ago. I am only 58 and wish they had better meds back then.

Question/Comment:

Can we use Metformin with Glyburide twice a day? I sometimes feel my sugar goes very low and I also feel that I am gaining weight.

45 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

I have been using both for the past 3 years and this is the way i have been taken ,1 Metformin 1000 mg at breakfast around 7.00 am,1 5mg Glyburide at lunch around 12.00 pm and another Glyburide around 6.00 pm then another Metformin1000 mg an hour before bedtime,i have taken glyburide before at bed time and it drops my levels very fast where i have to get up in the middle of the night and have something, i have a sip of orange juice maybe an once to bring the levels up faster so i have learn that glyburide before bed time it is not good for me so i made the changes and it works hope this information helps you,you can also tried 1 mg of Prandin half an hour before meals so you can control your sugar levels no matter what you eat,and maybe you cut down on your other medication, ask your doctor if prandin is good for you, hope this information is good for you

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Both metformin and glyburide can be taken twice per day. With glyburide, your blood glucose may decrease too much. Metformin does not typically cause hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. Weight gain is not a typical side effect of either of these medications. Glyburide can cause some weight gain. On the other hand, metformin tends to cause some weight loss. You should talk to your doctor about your symptoms and how you are expected to take these medications.

Question/Comment:

I've been taking Glyburide for little over a year. I have not felt any side affects so far. I only take insulin on days that I can't exercise when my blood glucose lever goes to 300 mg/dl. I used to take 50 ubits of 70/30 twice a day in the past. I mostly control my bs with diet and exercise.
