Global Patient Feedback for Cozaar (Losartan) ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
I changed from taking Micardis, which is very expensive, to Cozaar (losartan) when the generic became available. Now I am breaking out with hives. Could this be a side effect?

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Although hives could be a sign of an allergic reaction to the Cozaar or to one of the inactive ingredients, there are many causes of hives. If are still breaking out in hives, It would be best to call your physician as soon as possible and explain the reaction you are having.

Question/Comment:
I was on Avapro for some time,LOVED it-however insurance company decided it was to costly and raised my co-pay.My dr switched me to Losartan-potassium. I feel really tired and sleepy even after I get out of bed.Is this a side effect of this medication?
48 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States
Posted: 2010-06-15 08:09:25
iGuard Answer/Reply:
Losartan potassium can cause fatigue, or sleepiness, and a general feeling of malaise, or feeling run down. This is not a common side effect but has been reported with losartan use. It can be a side effect of all medicines in the same class as losartan, including Avapro. However, some people experience fewer side effcts on one medicine versus another, even when they are similar medicines that work the same way.
The feeling may go away as you continue taking losartan and your body gets used to the medicine. If it does not decrease, talk to your doctor about your symptoms and how you feel and discuss any options you may have.
