I don't understand why my doc won't take me off Lyrica since I know myself that is what has caused me to swell so badly and caused edema in my feet and ankles.I am scared and just want to get this weight off of me.I am now having pain in my chest and just need a solution to my nerve pain(Neuropathies) and not have the swelling that I am having.I am taking Foresemide(Lasix-generic)and it has made the swelling to go down to a degree,but should I just take something else besides the Lyrica,maybe?KE

Of iGuard patients, 5% report swelling with Lyrica. Lyrica can cause weight gain. It would be good to make another appointment with your doctor to discuss the options available to you to treat your neuropathies and your swelling. If the swelling is affecting your quality of life to such a degree and causing chest pain, it is important to have it treated as quickly as possible whether the Lyrica is causing it or not. Your physician would best know the options to treat both based on your medical record and history. Also, if you do not feel that your symptoms are being taken seriously, you could seek a second opinion from another doctor.

I am taking Spirolactone for edema and blood pressure along with Furesomide, Veraphamil, Warfarin and Atenonol. Have cardiac defribrillator.
Suffering from excessive sweating since adding the Spirolactone to regime. all lab work checks out. It is like a hot flash sort of. I am 68. it leaves my hair wet and dripping . Occurs during day not night sweats.

Although Furosemide is the loop diuretic that is usually prescribed for CHF, it is not the only loop diuretic that is helpful. Since every patient is individual sometimes another loop diuretic gives better results. Any of the websites or books that describe medications will list the loop diuretics. However, each patient should talk to their doctor about which one is best. Some cardiologists are reluctant to prescribe a different loop diuretic(mine was!)but be persistent.

I was just recently diagnosed with heart failure after my mother's funeral. I thought I had the flu or something and the stress of her passing had just took it all out of me. I find out I was wrong. I know it can happen to anyone but I just feel I am too young and that answer of we don't know why but take these drugs is not good enough. I have a doctor who tells me the medication causes no problems or site effects so to hear you all posting on here to keep trying helps me greatly. Thank you.

I personally believe that cardiologists need to be giving patients a wider range of OPTIONS for their treatments. I also strongly feel that the doctors AND pharmacists are way too busy these days to even keep a close watch on what we are prescribed. So, it's up to us to do our homework. Research, research, research. And most of all, don't ever give up. If ou firmly believe that a medication is not benefitting you, or if you feel your weight gains are medication related--keep fighting the good fight until doctors actually stop long enough to truly LISTEN and truly make changes that benefit you.
