Question/Comment:
I have been taking TRICOR 145mg Pravstin ( Provachol ) , I have Arithmia ( my heart beat runs to fast at times ) since 1995 , Lately my legs cramp big time , The Tricor for 30 day supply is $ 120.00 this is with RX Insurance , without Insurance it costs $ 157.00 @ Walmart . Reading the posts makes me believe my leg cramps come from the Meds I take .

Question/Comment:
I've been on Toprol and Atelonol for over 10 years but was never diagnosed with AF. My heart fluttered or skipped beats. But I was under extreme job related stress and had very high blood pressure problems. I retired 5 years ago and my stress level went down but I was still taking 150m Metopolol up to 2 weeks ago. I had changed doctors and my current doctor wants me off that level of med. I went down to 50m (from 150m to 100m to 50m because you must be weaned off it), and I have had no fluttering or skipping and my BP seems to be controlled. I hope it is permanent because I am so tired taking medications that I can no longer afford.

Question/Comment:
I have been diagnosed with tachycardia and have gone to the ER twice with a heart rate of over 220 beats per minute. These episodes were not pleasant. I have since been given a prescription for Atenolol. I take half a pill 2 times a day. I feel tired to the point of exhaustion and have gained a lot of weight...but my heart is beating fine and I have not been to the ER for over 2 years now. I can handle that.

Yes , like you I feel so tired all the time. I am unable to do my housework or anything else anymore. It is an effort just to walk from the car to my house! And when I sit down to rest, I fall asleep. I can't begin to go thru the mail because I'm asleep before I'm thru it. And since I can't walk far, I can't exercise or go for walks anymore and I've gained weight. HOW do you loose weight when you can't do any exercises? My cardiologist knows this and when he has me do a stress test, he orders the chemical test. To me it is just a vicious
circle and I'll never really feel any better.

Seeking the professional advice and guidance of a registered dietician may be very helpful for you. In many cases your insurance may cover this health benefit as well. The dietician can recommend daily meals that will promote energy but at the same time give guidance on recommended calorie intake to help reduce weight gain.

Question/Comment:
I have had AFib since 1984. The cardiologist who saw me then said it was nothing to be alarmed about and my heart was just fine, yea sure! First I got a pacemaker as when I have the AFib episodes, when they quit, my heart quits and I was passing out!
Later I under went ablation treatment and later while having open heart surgery for a valve repair, my surgical team preformed what is called the Maze Procedure. A week after that, I had congestive heart failure...they had to drain my lungs 3 times ! I am on BetaPace, Toprol XL, Lasix, Clonidine, Benazepril, and Norvasc.
Altho I was told I wouldn't have episodes after the Maze, I still do.
They aren't as bad or they don't last for hours on end like they used to, they are enough that I notice them. I am unable to do much of anything anymore. It takes me 3 tries just to sweep my kitchen floor.
I can't even walk a block without being out of breath. And lately,
I'm falling asleep all the time.

I am 78 year, was put on the same medication for about a year, was taken off because of the side effects, which I never had. Now it's become a crap shoot, trying different meds. I am now on metoprolol and having problems with interactions from other med.
I am sick of doctors not knowing how sick mixing meds can be to there paitients.
Why doesn't someone clue them in or are they too dam busy

I too have been on the good old Am, yes it does work, while it's killing all your other organs. I agree with you with all my shakie heart, the Doctors really don"t know enough about this AF or how it really feels or even what to do about it except to give you another pill it's a wait and see process. And the problem with that it can make you sick, and interfer with other meds. My daughter has it also and it took thr dr. a while to admit she hsad it{altho she could feel it} but for a long time when she was tested it would not show up, it's a sneakie killer. I wish you good luck and I am also on the same med your taking now, can,t say much for it. It,s a waiting game, altho it's not funny anymore, I sure you will agree. Again I wish you good luck. gh differednt medications, and I sure donot feel well most of the time.

I am a 78 year old women, had a pace maker put in and was put on amiodarone & warfin. I finally found a heart Dr. who really cares, and the first thing he did was take me off the Amiodarone, because of the danger it can be to your other organs. We are still trying to get the right meds..it's hit or miss at this point. My daughter has the same thing, so I'll go on for her sake, and try to find the right combination. Good luck to you.
