Question/Comment:

I have been on sythroid for several years, was switched to Levothyroxin but have to take 88Mcg one day the next day I take 75 Mcg. They are trying to get the right dosage. Do you think Synthroid is better. I am a 77 year old female.

77 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

I was taking 100mcg of Levothyroxin for some time then the next blood test said it was low so I was switched to 75mcg. I started having palpatations & not sleeping well so the Dr. decided to go back to the 100mcg after o month trial as it was getting too high. Why would it change from what I have been using , change it & then go back to same thing? I don't have my next appointment till August so I am wondering why the 100mcg is ok now?

Answer/Reply:

Sometimes your body can change and that would affect the dose of the thyroid replacement. That is why it is important to be monitored regularly via blood work. Finding just the right dose of thyroid replacement can take some effort, and there are many different regimens that can help patients achieve that.

Question/Comment:

Symptoms:pain, numbness, weakness from elbow to fingers, and knees to toes. I have different pain like ache but not flu or muscle ache. Majoy memory loss, poor concentration, real hard time understanding speach at times, confusion, slurred speach, joining 2 words to make one shorter one. been to all kinds of doctors had all kinds of test everything is normal including my thyroid. I am wondering if I should get an Ultra Sound done on my thyroid for hashimotos disease?

36 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Hashimoto's disease is best diagnosed via bloodwork. An ultrasound may not be the best tool. Sometimes overall body aches can be caused by a vitamin D deficiency and that can also be determined by bloodwork. Make an appointment with your doctor and let him/her know of your concerns.

Answer/Reply:

You may want to make an appointment with a Neuorologist as well if you have not already? They can test for other things that may affect all of these things, like Lupus, Lime Disease, MS etc.

My symptoms also and I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and CFS, I also have hypothyroidism. My doctor put me on 60mg of Armour, when I ran out I was given Synthroid which made me very sick so I went back to the Armour and have felt fine since. I take LowDose Naltrexone 3mg at bedtime for the Fibromyalgia and I am now in remission. My memory has improved to the point where I have gone back to school to finish my R.N. :) I did some research for memory you need to take Alpha GPC300, Phosphatidylserine, B complex and ginseng. I hope you feel better soon.

Question/Comment:

I have hypothyroidism and also Fibromyalgia. I am on 50mg of synthroid and no prescription medication for the Fibromyalgia. I do however take 3600 mg of magnesium malate , 100mg of CQ10 and 1200mg of calcium which helps the Fibromyalgia. but I am still extremely tired. Should I be taking more. I also take 3mg of Lunesta to help me sleep and get a full 5 hours uninterrupted sleep. Is there more I should be asking my doctor?

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Fatigue and tiredness can be a sign that your thyroid levels are too low. It may bee time to have your thyroid levels checked and possibly have your Synthroid dose adjusted. There are some prescription medications that you can take for fibromyalgia, such as Lyrica or amitriptyline. Low levels of vitamin D have been diagnosed as fibromyalgia, so ask your doctor to get blood work to find out if you are deficient in vitamin D. You need to decide how you feel about your treatment plan for your fibromyalgia. If you feel it is being controlled by the medications you are currently taking, then you should continue as you are.

Answer/Reply:

You should try Low Dose Naltrexone for your Fibro (I was tired when my fibro was bad) I am in full remission now because of it! This medication is compounded b/c you only need small doses - I take 3mg. For the Hypothyroidism, Your dose could be too low or maybe you need a different medication - when I was on Synthroid I had no energy, was nauseated every day and had weight gain, going back on the Armour Thyroid gave me my life back. This worked for me - you'll have to speak to your Dr. and be willing to try something new if you want different results. Also, you need
B complex vitamins be sure to take these too.
