Question/Comment:

Is there a depression med that won't make you fat?? How is getting fat supposed to NOT make me more depressed?

36 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

If you are classified as depressed try talking with your doctor. Pristiq and Effexor are less likely to make you gain weight, but be sure it's the medicine causing the weight gain. Because your depressed alone you might gain weight because your less likely to be active. But, I highly suggest you speaking to your doctor, that's what I did.

Question/Comment:

Has anyone tried dexedrine for depression? I've read a lot of
positive comments but I'd like to learn more before asking my doc
to give me a script for some. I'm on 20mg of Lexapro daily and have
not seen or felt any better on that AD after taking it for 2yrs.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Effexor FX for about three yrs now. the first yr i was drinking while on it, since then. I've had a mental break down. and have been sober for two years. i have problems sleeping, a pain all over in my body and migraines to boot. yesterday my dr switched me to Cymbalta, and Clonazepam, (Klonopin). the Effexor, xanax, and ambien were not working, i was still feeling depressed and sad all the time. Does anyone have any experience with Cymbalta? Thanks

Answer/Reply:

i've been taking 120mg of Cymbalta for 4yrs after first being on Prozac then Effexor. i also take .05mg of Clonazepam every day. i feel really good . i lost 40 lbs by cutting out soda from my life. it was the worst addiction for me. sleeping is a Lazy Boy recliner due to spinal stenosis, plus 2 low back operations and a neck op where they put a titanium cage at C6&7. laying flat kills my back. lucky for me that my wife keeps me sane. i've tried suicide twice while married and once when i was single. not a good idea. you never know whats around the next corner. Great book to read is The Depression Cure.

Answer/Reply:

I've been on Cimbalta for a couple of years, it seemed to help a little, but I'm not satisified with the overall relief I get from it. I'm thinking of asking my doctor to let me try Lyrica.

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Effexor XR, Wellbutrin XR, Seroquel for about five years and then about two years ago my doctor added lithium (900 mg day). This past weekend I was at a convention and suffered what others said was a seizure. I never ever had any in the past and this is new to me. I do not remember anything that happened and was told it took minutes before I came around vaguely. Would these meds cause it even after years of taking them?

43 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

You should be seen and evaluated by a neurologist who will be able to better assess the cause of the seizures and how to treat them.
